Petersen Museum offering educational automotive livestreams for car kids

With schools closed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, the onus has fallen on virtual learning to continue to educate the next generation. For those who want to learn about more than just algebra and biology, the Petersen Museum is stepping up to help.

While the museum will remain closed to the public until at least March 31, Petersen will offer free educational livestreams twice daily on an assortment of car-related topics. The morning subjects will focus on a broad range of automotive topics, while the afternoon streams will involve activities and crafts. Additionally, the livestreams will offer downloadable worksheets and coloring sheets to accompany the lectures.

Already announced lecture topics include sessions like “force and motion,” where students will learn more about the physics behind the automobile, and “design process,” which will utilize the car as the vessel with which to explain how something goes from an idea to a finished product.

Project sessions will offer kids the chance to build their own balloon cars, design their own license plates, and even create their own car models. Those interested in leveraging Petersen’s educational offerings can visit the museum’s online education page for the assets mentioned above.

While we’re bummed that the epic gatherings, incredible collections, and legendary car vault won’t be getting the foot-traffic they deserve, it’s important that we all do our part to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
