The GR Supra GT4 wrings 430 horses out of BMW’s straight-six
There’s no shortage of GT4-class race car offerings these days, and following the concept preview in March, the FIA-compliant variant of the Supra is finally here, courtesy of Gazoo Racing. It’s a shame you can’t drive the GR Supra GT4 on the street, but the indicated peak output of 430 horsepower is certainly reassuring when it comes to the tunability of the straight-six engine the GR Supra GT4 shares with the road-going car.
For a “planned” base price of $195,000, Toyota Gazoo Racing will give you a Supra with a 3.0-liter, turbocharged six-cylinder pushed to 430 hp instead of the stock 335 horses, connected to a seven-speed gearbox replacing the street car’s eight-speed. Our resident parts expert suggests this to be BMW’s double-clutch unit from the M4 GT4, with the GR Supra GT4 also sharing its brakes with the Bavarian.
No surprise there.
The list of upgrades continues with a mechanical limited-slip differential, an Akrapovič exhaust system, Ravenol lubricants, and KW adjustable dampers front and rear. The GT4 brake system consists of six-piston front and four-piston rear racing calipers, enhanced by the stickiness of Pirelli tires. To more closely stick to that tarmac, the GR Supra GT4’s body has also been modified with a carbon-fiber wing and sturdy front splitter. Together with the stripped interior and carbon-fiber instrument panel, these changes lead to an overall weight of 2976 pounds. This weight is, of course, subject to the Balance of Performance rules, which adjust a car’s weight and power output to produce parity with the other GT4 cars in the name of fairness. As you’d expect, the GR Supra GT4 also features a full FIA-spec roll cage, racing buckets, and six-point harnesses.
Looking good.
