First production C8 Corvette will cross the block in Scottsdale

Barrett-Jackson and Chevrolet are joining forces again, this time to auction the first retail production 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at Barrett’s 49th Annual Scottsdale Auction in January. Considering the current UAW strike will reportedly delay C8 production, there’s a possibility that VIN 001 might not be built in time to cross the block in Arizona.

Nevertheless, the first mid-engine Stingray will be sold to the highest bidder during the annual Scottsdale auction January 11–19, with all proceeds benefiting the Detroit Children’s Fund. The charitable organization offers training, resources, and supplies to underfunded public schools in the greater Detroit area. It’s difficult to say how much the first production C8 might bring at auction, but in June, Barrett auctioned the last C7 for $2.7 million at its Northeast Auction in Connecticut. Proceeds went to the Stephen Siller Tunnel-to-Towers Foundation. Like the first C8, the last C7 (a black Z06) has not been built yet.

Excitement is building for the mid-engine Corvette, which had been rumored for years and was finally unveiled in July.

“Since its debut, the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette has raced its way into the hearts of performance enthusiasts around the globe…,” said Sean Finegan, Chevrolet Manager of Corporate Events. “It’s only fitting that VIN 001 begin its legacy on the block to help build up and invest in the lives of students across this great city.”

VIN 001 will be powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 LT2 engine and come equipped with the Z51 performance package. Referred to as “the jewel in the center,” the Corvette’s naturally-aspirated V-8 engine is mated to an eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission capable of 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, the most horsepower and torque for any entry Corvette. The jet-fighter-inspired Stingray will ride on coilover springs and monotube shocks, have magnetic ride control, and feature massive front and rear four-piston Brembo brakes.

Craig Jackson, Barrett-Jackson’s chairman and CEO, predicted the sale of the first C8 Corvette “will, without a doubt, be one of the hallmarks of next year’s Scottsdale Auction.”
