Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is back July 19 with a star-packed ensemble
Compared to a television show that was literally about nothing, a couple of comedians going for coffee, chatting in a classic car, sounds almost like a plot. Of course, when you’re as talented a comedian as Jerry Seinfeld and his Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee guest stars are, you can probably spin comedic gold, I tell you, gold, from just about anything.
In an Instagram message posted yesterday, Seinfeld announced that the show’s 11th season will start streaming on Netflix on July 19, 2019.
Seinfeld wrote,
“I love the coffee.
I love the cars.
I love the comedians.
And yes, doing the show with Eddie was really special.”
That last line is a reference to comedy great Eddie Murphy, who will be featured in one episode. Murphy hasn’t done standup comedy in years, so it will be a rare opportunity to see him ad lib with another world-class comic.
Seinfeld’s Instagram and Twitter posts also mentioned the other 10 guests who will appear on CICGC’s 11 episodes for this summer, including Seth Rogen, Ricky Gervais, Matthew Broderick, Jamie Foxx, Sebastian Maniscalco, Martin Short, Mario Joyner, Melissa Villaseñor, Bridget Everett, and Barry Marder.
Of course, you’re a car guy or gal, so you’re probably at least as interested in the machinery as you are the gags, and while Jerry’s post didn’t say anything about what cars will be featured in which episodes, the publicity shots that Netflix has released give us a few clues.
You’ll likely see a Volkswagen Thing, a Lamborghini Huracán Performante, a Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet, and, since Seinfeld is a huge Porsche fanatic, he’s also going to be driving a bathtub 356 convertible and a Carrera GT. For one episode, it appears that the show will depart slightly from its normal format, since one of the shots shows Jerry and Italian-American comedian Maniscalco riding a Vespa and one other, presumably Italian, motor scooter, rather than driving in a car.
We might also see an early ’70s Mustang Grande, as Seinfeld’s Instagram post also included a profile shot of a brougham’d Mustang of that vintage.
We’ll know for sure on July 19, when viewers can start streaming episodes. In the meantime, you can check out reruns of all 10 previous seasons on Netflix.
