Superformance honors Ford GT40’s 50th with “Future GT Forty”
The SEMA show in Las Vegas has long been the place to seek out custom paint and trick powertrains, and Superformance combined both into the “Future GT Forty.” This fiberglass MkI GT40 replica has a slew of custom touches paying homage to the car that won Le Mans in 1968, along with the powertrain from the modern GT that is still in showrooms today, and will be available until 2022.
The “Future GT Forty” uses the GT40 Mk I chassis that Superformance recreates, albeit finished unlike any other of its recreations to date. While the chassis employs parts mostly interchangeable with an original car, this special build will feature a host of modern tech that not every Superformance build gets.
Situated just behind the driver’s right shoulder is the 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 from the modern Ford GT, with a custom Magnaflow exhaust doing its best “pit of snakes” impression while still feeding the twin turbos. It remains good for 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. The car’s custom interior is more luxurious than any ’60s-era race driver could have ever dreamed, not to mention the air suspension and custom wheels. The exterior will be sprayed with the current GT’s endurance racing livery to create a synthesis of the old and new.
While it is a tribute to racing machines both new and old, the modern EcoBoost V-6 should have decent street manners, and Superformance added a Gurney Bubble for those who are larger than a typical race car driver.
Superformance will actually build and sell the Future GT Forty, although if you prefer a natural-breathing V-8 instead of the Ecoboost six, that’s also an option. With any luck, we will get behind the wheel in a few months, and maybe Superformance will even let us keep it if we ask nicely.
