797-hp 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye brings the muscle, Scat Pack gains widebody
After much teasing, Dodge finally pulled the cover off of the 2019 Challenger, and it’s a doozy. Not only is there a new 797-horsepower Hellcat Redeye to bridge the gap between the standard Hellcat and the Demon, but the Hellcat gets a modest power bump and the illustrious Scat Pack gets a new hood and available Widebody package borrowed from the Hellcat.
The standard 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat also receives a 10-hp bump for a total of 717 hp.
2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye
Now that every Demon has been sold, the new Hellcat Redeye is the top kitty in the Challenger playpen. Dodge boasts that the car’s healthy 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque come courtesy of Demon-sourced upgrades, combining a 2.7-liter supercharger (compared to 2.4 liters in the regular Hellcat), 14.5 psi of boost pressure (compared to 11.6 psi), 6500-rpm redline (compared to 6200 rpm), and two dual-stage fuel pumps rather than one.
The previously teased dual-snorkel hood, along with the headlamp and wheel inlet, help direct air to a larger induction box for improved cooling. Also sourced from the Demon and standard on the Redeye is the SRT Power Chiller, which diverts air conditioning refrigerant to through a radiator and then through heat exchangers to help cool the supercharger.
High-strength steel prop shafts add a 15-percent increase in torque capacity, and upgraded half shafts now have a 20-percent bump in torque capacity. Two final-drive ratios—2.62:1 and 3.09:1—will be offered, the latter for improved launching.
The Hellcat Redeye will blitz the quarter-mile in 11.1 seconds at 131 mph, according to Dodge, on to a top speed of 203 mph. With the optional Widebody package, the Redeye shaves its time down to 10.8 seconds.
Challenger R/T Scat Pack
The big news for the 485-hp 392 Hemi-powered Scat Pack is the addition of the optional Widebody package, previously only available on the Hellcat. Adding 3.5 inches of width, upgraded tires, stiffer front springs, SRT-tuned shocks, bigger sway bars, revamped adaptive dampers, a revised front fascia, and a Hellcat rear spoiler, the Widebody kicks things up a notch (or several). Dodge claims an improvement of 0.2 seconds in the quarter-mile, with a time of 12.1 seconds at 112 mph.
Standard goodies for Challenger R/T and GT RWD
Dodge’s Super Track Pak is now standard on R/T and GT RWD models, adding a sportier suspension and steering tune, 20-inch wheels, shift paddles for automatic models, and a “performance” hood and front splitter. Opt for the Performance Handling pack for stronger brakes and larger rear sway bar on the GT, or improved sway bars, springs, shocks, bushings, mounts, and limited-slip differential for the R/T.
Pricing information for all 2019 Dodge Challenger models will be revealed later this year, and all Dodge is saying now is that the Scat Pack will come in at under $40,000.
