It looks like Ford won’t screw up the new Bronco

The Bronco is the hottest anticipated new vehicle in Ford’s future product plan, if not in the entire automotive world. Bronco fever is so high that values for classic Broncos are climbing across the board. With that anticipation also comes fear: Will the Bronco live up to expectations? It’s already known that the off-road-ready SUV will be built alongside and based on the same platform as the upcoming Ranger pickup that was revealed at this year’s Detroit show. But the main question remains if the Bronco will follow design cues from the Ranger and Ford’s truck family, or be more of a throwback to the original.

If you were fearful that the Bronco would merely be an SUV variant of the Ranger, you can breathe easy. The latest teaser image released by Ford shows that the Bronco will be based on a series of rectangles and squares, as it should be. The hood is flat, the windshield is nearly upright, and there’s a big spare tire mounted to the rear. Prominent fender flares also hint at serious off-road clearances.

Which is to say that all signs point to a Bronco that is true to original model in proportion without being an outright retro play. In other words, so far it looks like Ford won’t screw this up. Let the fever continue.
