SpeedKore’s carbonized Dodge Demon
The 840-hp Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is barely on the street—in fact several headed to owners burned up recently when their transporter caught fire, this car is so hot. But the Grafton, Wisconsin carbon-fiber specialists at SpeedKore Performance Group have ginned up a carbon-skinned Demon that they showed at the 2017 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) this week in Las Vegas with the help from rocker, restaurateur, and tequila maker Sammy Hagar.
The carbon Demon swaps all of its metal skin for pre-preg carbon panels made and baked at SpeedKore, which last year showed a similarly skinned Hellcat and has done the same treatment on a Shelby GT350R. For anyone wanting the ultimate Demon, they must first purchase a Demon for $86,090 (or $86,091 with the vital “Demon Crate”), then take it to SpeedKore. The full reskin costs another $90,000, takes about 90 days, and sheds “around 200 pounds,” said one of the company’s employees, though Dodge insiders thought the weight savings was closer to 150 pounds. Either way, the all-carbon skin likely won’t much affect the Demon’s quarter-mile times, which are expected to land around 10 seconds once FiatChrysler lets the magazines conduct independent instrumented test.
For the SEMA show Demon, the car was painted in factory TorRed, or a reasonably close facsimile, then selectively sanded down to reveal the naked carbon underneath, which was then clear-coated. As with the previous carbon Hellcat and carbon GT350R, the carbon Demon is intended to be a showcase for SpeedKore’s carbon-fiber business, the company expecting that far more people will buy parts a la carte then have their entire car carbonized.
