Model overview
Model description
For decades, SS or “Super Sport” badging could be found on Chevrolet’s top performers. It was only in 2014, however, that GM used the letters for a dedicated model, in this case a high-performance sedan. There is no “base” trim of the 2014 Chevrolet SS. The only flavor is a V8-powered, four-door sleeper. Base price for the 2014 SS came in at just under $45,000.
The 2014 Chevrolet SS is essentially a re-badged Holden Commodore SS, a popular sport-sedan in the Australian market. This was a truly badge-engineered car, with emblems as the only major difference between the Chevy and its Aussie counterpart. Previously, GM had borrowed Holden platforms for the Pontiac GTO coupe and G8 GXP sedan.
Behind the bowtie emblem is a 6.2-liter LS3 V-8, also used in the C6 Corvette. In the Chevy SS, it was rated at 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The SS also came with 19-inch forged aluminum wheels fitted with high-performance Z-rated tires. Stopping comes courtesy of Brembo disc brakes.
The SS only came in one trim and is fully loaded. Creature comforts include leather seating, a 9-speaker Bose audio system, USB/Bluetooth connectivity, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Chevy’s MyLink infotainment. The SS also comes with modern safety tech like forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring. The only option on the SS is a power sunroof.
