Model overview

Model description

The year 2000 was a holdover year for the Chevy Camaro, and complex packaging continued. Monterey Maroon Metallic was a new color, and Hugger Orange was only available early. New 10-spoke, 16-inch wheels were introduced, while five-spoke ones continued. The Dark Gray interior color was replaced by Ebony, and Medium Gray replaced White. A four-spoke leather-trimmed steering wheel with radio controls was optional.

Production rose slightly to 45,461 units, with 25,042 Base models and 20,419 Z28. A total of 22,097 Base Coupes were sold at $17,375, with 2,945 Base Convertibles at $24,675. Z28 Coupes were selected by 17,383 customers at $21,800, while 3,036 top-down fans bought convertibles from $28,900. As before, Base cars were powered by the 200hp V-6, while the Z28 motor was a 305hp version of the fantastic LS1.

Base model buyers could choose a 5-speed manual gearbox, or pay $815 for an automatic transmission. Z28 buyers could pick a 6-speed gearbox or automatic transmission at no extra charge. In all, 31,496 Camaros carried automatic transmissions, while 7,154 buyers paid $325 for a Hurst 6-speed shifter.

All Camaros were fitted with air conditioning and four-wheel disc brakes, while 22,753 buyers spent $250 for traction control and 11,712 Z28 buyers bought a performance axle ratio for $300.

The heavy duty Special Performance “track pack” 1LE was discontinued, though it had seldom sold 100 copies a year and at $1,200 was both bare-bones and expensive. The B4C Special Service package, however, found 254 buyers for the same cost as a Z28 but with the Plain Jane appearance. It had a power steering cooler, heavy duty suspension with 1LE rear control arms and a matching color roof. Z28 badges were deleted. Just nine examples had a 6-speed

The WU8 Camaro Super Sport (SS) package was popular and 8,913 customers spent $3,950 for the 320hp engine, cold-air intake hood, special suspension, 17-inch wheels and SS trim. Production was divided into 4,772 6-speed Coupes, 802 6-speed Convertibles, 2,569 automatic Coupes and 770 automatic Convertibles.

Comfort and convenience options could be ordered separately or packaged. Option Group 1B cost $1,170 but was no cost to Z28 Convertible buyers. Option Group 1D cost Z28 Coupe buyers $1,715 and found 16,106 customers. Retail “power package” AU0 combined keyless entry, power door locks, windows, hatch release, mirrors, cruise control and fog lamps. More than 30,000 buyers ticked that box.

A total of 10 colors were available for the 2000 Chevrolet Camaro and fairly evenly divided. Most favored was Black (8,793), then Light Pewter Metallic (8,432), Bright red (7,677), Sebring Silver Metallic (5,646), Navy Blue (5,097), Arctic White (4,931), Monterey Maroon Metallic (3,167), Mystic Teal Metallic (1,680) Sunset Orange (13) and Hugger Orange (1).

Many factors can increase a car's value including excellent condition, exceptional originality, a recent restoration, low mileage, unique provenance, desirable options, popular or unique color choices, and excellent maintenance records. Upgrades and modifications that enhance performance or aesthetics can also add value.

Factors that can decrease a car's value include unusually high mileage, poor maintenance history, visible wear and tear, accidents or damage, title issues, and gaps in ownership history. Additionally, less popular color choices and extensive modifications that don't appeal to a broad audience can reduce value.

Mileage plays a significant role in a classic car’s value. Lower mileage usually increases value because it indicates a higher degree of originality, is rarer, and suggests less wear and tear. However, cars with exceptionally low mileage may also have maintenance needs due to lack of use. Whether someone should pay more for a vehicle with lower miles will depend on how they plan on using it, and the vehicle's specific condition.

The value of modified cars differs widely based on the type and quality of modifications. While some modifications can significantly increase value, especially performance enhancements and high-quality custom work, others may not add much or could even detract from the car’s value if they appeal to only a limited audience.
