Model overview
Model description
The Dodge Charger blends old and new with an iconic nameplate and muscle car powertrain in modern sedan packaging. After its successful debut in 2006, the Charger continued on for 2009, offered in four trims – SE, SXT, R/T, and SRT-8.
While the SE and SXT are V-6 models, moving up to the R/T added the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. For 2009, this engine got a bump in output to 368 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque (up from 340 hp and 390 lb-ft in 2008). An available Road and Track Performance Group further pushes output to 372 horsepower. This package also includes all-season performance tires and 20-inch aluminum wheels with chrome finish.
The range-topping SRT-8 came with a big 6.1-liter Hemi V-8, making 425 horsepower and 420 lb-ft. The SRT-8 also added more aggressive body work, a more pronounced spoiler and high-performance tires.
All engines route power to the rear wheels, while the SXT and R/T trims were also available with all-wheel drive.
For 2009, a special Super Bee edition was offered in limited numbers. It was featured in Hemi Orange, and came with orange-accent seats, special badging, and unique striping.
