Alfa Romeo Formula 1 drivers Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi have been enlisted to help set up the wild new Giulia GTA and GTAm super sedans. As you can see in the video below, the two race aces don’t hang about as they put the Alfas through their paces at the Balocco Proving Ground in Italy.

The focus of the test seems to be on fettling the adjustable aerodynamics which were developed in race team Sauber’s wind tunnel. The carbon-fiber front splitter and rear wing can be manually tweaked to suit different circuits or driving styles. A new rear diffuser and center-exit exhausts provide additional downforce.

The 2.9-liter V-6 Bi-Turbo engine produces 540 hp and in GTAm specification the Giulia is 220 pounds lighter than the GTA for even greater performance. The cars are camouflaged for the test, but from the onboard cameras you can see that Kimi called dibs on the more hardcore GTAm with its race seats and harness, and Antonio is behind the wheel of the GTA.

So, what does the most experienced Formula 1 driver of all time make of the GTA? “Yeah, it’s ok,” says Kimi in his typical understated style.

Well, we’re excited to see the GTA and GTAm get closer to delivery, even if Kimi isn’t.
