According to the TMZ website, comedian and car collector Jay Leno has been sent home from the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles where he was taken after being burned in a gasoline fire in his Burbank garage.

Leno was repairing a fuel line on his 1907 White steam car when gasoline, which is used to heat the car’s burner, splashed on his face and arm and then was ignited by a spark. A friend helped extinguish the flames, and Leno was taken to the hospital.

“The ex-late night host posed for a photo taken and posted by the Grossman Burn Center, where JL has been receiving treatment for the past nine days. In it, he seems to be in good spirits alongside the facility staff, but there’s noticeable scarring on his face and hands,” TMZ said. “In a statement, the burn center says Jay will receive follow-up care at their outpatient facility, this after receiving burns throughout his upper [body], including on his chest.”

A statement released by Grossman said: “Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received, and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes. He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”

Leno writes a column for Hagerty, and his colleagues here wish him a speedy recovery.

Jay, I hope that you have a speedy recovery. While I’m at this, I also would like to thank you for all of the years that you have shared your interests with auto enthusiasts like me & my friends. Get well soon, Jay. Wishing you all of the best.

Wow, what an exiting way to try hospital food! Seriously, keep your sense of humour and I’m sure your road to a healed body will seem less bothersome. Get well.

Wish you speedy recovery and many years inspiring me with your articles and TV show . I’m your age and went from full speed active to being hospitalized and rehab a year. Learning about different cars and tinkering on my small collection keeps me going. Thank your for teaching all of us and being so humble in the process.

Jay – working on old cars can be dangerous – I’ve been to the med center myself while working on Futurliner #10. It was quite exciting to have all the emergency vehicles come to our shop. I’m glad that you weren’t hurt worse than you were. Get well soon.

I like making believe I’m you when I’m in the garage working on my collection of one MGTD. It will be better when you’re back in your garage.

Jay like you I have been fooling around with cars for years, since as a young teenager my dad got me a 1930 A Ford Deluxe Roadster to fix up by the time I old enough to get my licence – his idea being that it would save me paying out any future repair bills, as I would then know forever how to fix it myself!!!?
Some near 200 collector cars later, couple of Musuems/other, ( and still no spare money ever !!!) ONE BIG THING I LEARNED/KNOW, WITH CARS, USUALLY ONLY BAD THINGS HAPPEN QUICKLY – Good things take longer, usually a lot longer.
An accident can take just seconds, yet to rebuild a rare car’s sligthly rusted/dinged body, find those near nonexistent needed parts, that takes way longer ?! Fire is a terrible thing, untold collector cars lost, and the way you got burned so quick is another terrible thing fire can do.

2021 and 2022 have been a lot of bad things for many people in many parts of the World – here in Australia a bumper great winter that has been so great a change after our years run of droughts, has in the last weeks turned into a massive great wet across much of the east of Australia, that has not only put many near record grain and fruit crops etc, feet under water, flash floods in some small towns, in one night, just so huge, they washed homes and everything else away, and taken some lives – this in areas where no such thing ever happened before. And in America, you have had those terrible summer fires, and then hurricanes that hit Florida and elsewhere. And that is before the two years of Covet, and now the troubles in Europe, and a winter coming there that record gas/other prices will see many struggle to keep warm/alive.

Those of us who play with our old – some not as old cars – often do so because we know good things will take longer, but still we appreciate the often genius and blood and sweat put into many of the cars we play with, as we try save them.
And at best, greatly enjoy driving them any chance we get.
MAY 2023 BE A GREAT YEAR FOR YOU – may there be many happy miles and many smiles, as you recover best as can from your narrow escape.
We cannot take our cars with us, SO ENJOY THEM EVERY CHANCE YOU GET, AS EVERY DAY WE CAN, IS A WINNER.
And forget the stupid saying “the man who dies with the most cars wins” – WRONG !! – “IT IS THE MAN WHO PLAYS – LIVES – WITH THE MOST CARS, AND DRIVES THEM EVERY CHANCE, WINS” !!!??
