TMZ: Jay Leno released from the hospital

Grossman Burn Center Jay Leno released

According to the TMZ website, comedian and car collector Jay Leno has been sent home from the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles where he was taken after being burned in a gasoline fire in his Burbank garage.

Leno was repairing a fuel line on his 1907 White steam car when gasoline, which is used to heat the car’s burner, splashed on his face and arm and then was ignited by a spark. A friend helped extinguish the flames, and Leno was taken to the hospital.

“The ex-late night host posed for a photo taken and posted by the Grossman Burn Center, where JL has been receiving treatment for the past nine days. In it, he seems to be in good spirits alongside the facility staff, but there’s noticeable scarring on his face and hands,” TMZ said. “In a statement, the burn center says Jay will receive follow-up care at their outpatient facility, this after receiving burns throughout his upper [body], including on his chest.”

A statement released by Grossman said: “Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received, and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes. He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”

Leno writes a column for Hagerty, and his colleagues here wish him a speedy recovery.

    Jay,
Wishing you a speedy recovery from the frozen north. You are admired by many Canadians, both for your comedy and for your devotion to the preservation of older machines. Keep up the good work on both counts.

Jay you don’t know me, but I’m the guy in the unrestored (but tatty) cascade green 57 Corvette you gave the thumbs up to on the Hollywood Freeway in your blower Bentley. I’m also the guy that had to move my video tripod leg to let your Tank Car pass at the Pebble Beach Dawn Patrol. Sincere Best Wishes for a speedy, reasonable pain-free recovery. Great shot of you with the staff at Grossman. You’re in good hands Brother.

Jay, I think you are fantastic. Sure glad you are doing better and wish you a full recovery. Be careful and Merry Christmas.

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loud proclaiming, “Wow what a ride!”

You’re a good man. You’ll pull through this and truly appreciate all the friends you have out there that care about you. Oh how I wish I had all the crazy & exotic cars I’ve owned and had them in a huge garage now. Stay well, please. Sincerely, Bob Wachtel aka “Bungalow Bob”

Get well soon, Jay! I know how quickly you can get injured working on cars or motorcycles. Love your passion for antiques. Best wishes!
