McLaren 765LT Strata Theme is a high-tech hot rod

If you want a car to look faster, add flames. McLaren Special Operations seems to have taken a modern twist on this motif with its 765LT Strata Theme.

McLaren says the theme is based on a cityscape, but we get distinct hot rod vibes from the way the Azores Orange, Heritage Memphis Red and Bespoke Cherry Black paints fuse to create a striking inverse-flame-meets-motion-blur effect. It looks digital, but was completely hand-painted in a process that took almost 400 hours. McLaren calls it, “An innovative mix of science and alchemy,” as you can see in the video below.

In addition to the extraordinary paint effect, the Strata Theme 765LT can be singled out by Volcano Red and Azores calipers (another bold move to have contrasting colors front and rear), the carbon roof scoop and the Strata layering graphic embedded in the exposed carbon door sills and woven into the Alcantara headrests of the winged carbon sports seats. Even the key wears the theme, requiring 14 hours to apply.

McLaren will only make 765 versions of the $358,000 765LT and you can bet that many will go to MSO for customization, with a 3D GEOHEX theme also on the menu.

Powered by McLaren’s go-to 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 the 765LT produces 765PS (754 hp) and will launch from zero to 124 mph in seven seconds flat. It’s over 160 pounds lighter than the 720S and its longtail rear features an active rear wing to optimize downforce.
