Will the 2020 Jeep Wrangler pickup be called Gladiator?

Jeep has been teasing a pickup based on the Wrangler platform since the 2005 Detroit Auto Show, but the flame was fanned by a potential leak on the FCA media site, confirming that the 2020 Wrangler-based pickup would be called the Gladiator.

There have been a few names attached to concepts in the past, from J12 to Nukizer 715, but most assumed the future Wrangler pickup would adopt the Scrambler name, used on open-bed Jeeps in the ’80s.

It’s only a rumor at this point, but the Gladiator nameplate would be a callback to the J10 Gladiator pickup of 1963–71. The online Jeep community seemed to have Gladiator and Scrambler at the top of the list for potential names. The source of the information, jeepscramblerforum.com, plans to change its name to jeepgladiatorforum.com.

With nothing confirmed yet, we can only dream of a vintage-style but highly capable Jeep gracing local off-road parks. We have our fingers crossed that the North American International Auto Show in January will finally clear things up.
