Ford Performance has a new intake and tune package for the 2018-2020 Mustang GT, lifting both power and torque curves to levels similar to what the 480-hp Mustang Bullitt has on tap. The $1275 kit, legal in all 50 states, is now available for U.S. and Canadian owners through the Ford Performance website.

The kit includes a new engine tune for 91-octane gas, a cold air intake, and an 87-mm throttle body with an adapter to mount to the Coyote’s intake manifold. Everything in the kit has its own Ford Performance part number, except for the cold air intake, which looks like the factory intake found on the sixth-generation Mustang Bullitt. We asked Ford Performance and we were told it does share the airbox with the Bullitt,  but has a different lid that prevents water from entering via the hood vents. The Bullitt also uses the same 87-mm throttle body included in this package, which is the same diameter as the throttle found on the 525-hp GT350.

Ford claims this kit is good for an additional 42 lb-ft of torque at 2000 rpm, 18 lb-ft at 4500 rpm, and 19 hp at 6500 rpm. For the 2020 Mustang GT, the standard 5.0-liter Coyote V-8’s peak torque of 420 lb-ft comes at 4500 rpm, while the peak 460 hp arrives at 7500 rpm. Equipped with this kit, the GT’s peak torque is almost certainly up by about 18 lb-ft, and the peak power is also up, but it’s not clear by how much. Either way, it seems safe to say that this is a very cost-effective way to get a Bullitt-like power boost out of your GT.

Owners of automatic-equipped GTs also get new performance shift programming to make better use of the newfound power. The best part, besides the affordable price, is that the parts will be covered by a three-year/36,000-mile warranty when installed by Ford or an ASE/Red Seal certified technician.

If you missed the boat on the Bullitt, or just prefer a steering wheel with a pony on it, now’s your chance to narrow the performance gap.
