The facelifted Chevy Colorado is here to throw sand and take names

Chevrolet announced a facelift for the 2021 Colorado mid-size truck this morning. Most notably, Chevy is buffing up their top-tier Colorado ZR2 with a new front end that puts it more in line with its Silverado big brother, but also further distinguishes it from the rest of the Colorado line-up. Key here is the flow-through “Chevrolet” front fascia, which Chevy claims will improve driver visibility.

Lower trim trucks such as the WT and LT will receive an updated front end with a revised gold Chevy bowtie and a new lower fascia and skid plate. The Z71 model will wear a black bowtie with a similarly new skid plate and lower fascia. A new “Chevrolet” embossed tailgate will be fitted across all trims of the truck, from the lowly Work Truck up to the desert-stomping ZR2.

Speaking of desert, the Colorado ZR2 and Z71 trims will offer a new paint color, aptly named Sand Dune Metallic for those who want some extra sand with their sand dunes. Shown in the pictures above, it accentuates the black fender flares and front grille of the ZR2 nicely. We’re curious to see how it will look on the Z71 package with the black bowtie.

The new truck will step into the public light for the first time at the Method Race Wheels Laughlin Desert Classic on October 10, with desert master Chad Hall behind the wheel. The production truck will debut at SEMA not long after that. Hall and Chevy have enjoyed a fruitful partnership over the past two years, developing and testing a smattering of bolt-on products that allow your everyday ZR2 owner to build themselves a bona fide, Baja-blasting race truck.

All Colorados are built at the Wentzville Assembly Center in Wentzville, Missouri. Pricing will be announced closer to production. The facelifted truck goes on sale next year.
