Australia gets 700-hp supercharged Mustang R-Spec
While Americans can head over to a Ford dealer to buy a Roush Stage 3 Mustang with 710 supercharged horses, Ford of Australia will offer a similar flavor of pony to Blue Oval fans Down Under. The Ford Mustang R-Spec comes with the same Ford Performance Roush 2650 Supercharger Kit as its domestic cousin. The Aussies claim 700 horsepower and 610 foot pounds, with the R-Spec being limited to 500 right-hand-drive units.
Available in Grabber Lime, Twister Orange, Oxford White and Velocity Blue, the R-Spec features other goodies from the Ford Performance catalogue, including the MagneRide Handling Pack (with lowering springs, adjustable anti-roll bars and a set of Michelin PS4S tires on 19-inch black wheels with matching wheel nuts), Herrod Performance’s active cat-back exhaust, the Ford Performance shift knob and scuff plates, and Ford’s black exterior package.
Since the range-topping Shelby GT500 won’t be sold in Europe, there’s a chance it won’t make it into Australia either, which would leave the southern continent with the R-Spec as its angriest Mustang. However, if you like the Australian package, the R-Spec can be easily built in left-hand-drive as well, as long as you’re okay with a few Roush-specific changes regarding engine block plaques and exhaust systems. With over 700 horses and a stickshift, we sure would be.
