Elantra N TCR Edition Gains Giant Wing, Forged Wheels
Hyundai is funneling some of the lessons it has learned since it began racing touring cars in 2017 into a special-edition version of the Elantra N. The aptly named Elantra N TCR Edition immediately stands out with a gigantic spoiler, among other add-ons, but the driveline is mechanically identical to that of its regular-production sibling. (We’re not disappointed; the regular N is a hoot.)
We’d have laughed for days if Hyundai had put this big of a wing on the Elantra 10 years ago, but the brand now has the credibility to back it up. It notably took first place in the 2018 edition of the World Touring Car Cup with the i30 N, and since its debut in 2021, the Elantra N has become a force to reckon with on the race track. Sebastian Loeb Racing drove the car to a TCR Europe title its very first season, and in 2022 and 2023 won a total of 16 titles not only abroad, in various TCR series, but in the United States. Just this fall, Bryan Herta Autosport, together with Hyundai, just won their fourth consecutive team and manufacturers’ championships in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series.
With the exception of four-piston monobloc brake calipers in the front, the features that set the TCR Edition apart from the standard Elantra N are easy to spot. You can’t miss the aforementioned wing: it’s on swan mounts, it’s adjustable, and it’s made with carbon fiber. It’s likely the biggest wing Hyundai has ever put on a regular production car. The TCR Edition also gains forged 19-inch wheels available in white or black, Performance Blue seatbelts, and an Alcantara-upholstered steering wheel with a Performance Blue 12-o’clock mark.
You’ll be disappointed if you’re expecting the 350-hp engine plucked right out of the TCR car and a sequential transmission. Power for the Elantra N TCR Edition comes from a stock, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s turbocharged to 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque. It spins the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, though an eight-speed automatic linked to shift paddles is optional.
The 2025 Hyundai Elantra N TCR Edition will go on sale in its home country of South Korea in December 2025, and it’s scheduled to reach other markets (including ours) shortly after. Pricing and availability will be announced closer to the model’s on-sale date. For context, the Elantra N starts at about $34,000.
