Today’s Ride From the Readers is a 1986 Dodge Charger boasting a remarkably low 278 original miles. The fifth-generation Charger rode on Chrysler’s front-wheel-drive L-body platform and filled a completely different market niche than the ’60s bruisers, or even the less-dramatic, cushy ’70s models. Like so many other nameplates that evolved in surprising ways over the years, this little hatch is a product of its fuel-starved times.
This particular example hailed first from a dealership in Golden, Colorado. And it stayed there from 1985 … until 2015. Then the Charger made a long—and trailered—trek to the Northeast, until it found itself once again on a trailer. This time it was headed to Iowa, where it currently resides with the current owner, Michael J. Cole, who also owns a body shop. The Charger will enjoy some quality company among Cole’s many Mopar vehicles.
