Worldwide Group announces Auburn auction results
Worldwide Group has announced sales results for their three-day Auburn sale, which was conducted during both the Labor Day weekend and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival in Indiana. Overall, the auction company recorded their highest total in four years of running this sale, with 243 automotive lots selling for $13.4m, including buyer’s premium.
The sale, held in the birthplace of ACD, always has a nice array of prewar American classics, and this year was no exception. Saturday night’s “Main Event” saw an incredible selection of both American and European classics, and the large crowd responded with spirited bidding. At the end, six cars bested the quarter-million-dollar mark.
Top honors went to the 1932 Duesenberg Model J-356 Derham Tourster at $880,000 and a 1930 Cadillac V16 Fleetwood convertible coupe which sold for $363,000. Other interesting sales include a much-hyped Delahaye 135M barn find that traded for condition #1 money at $247,500, and a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 that showed there is still life in the muscle market with a $286,000 paddle raise. Two Nash-Healey convertibles were let go for $82,500 and $56,100, showing that these models have largely returned to earth after their 2010 moon shot.

Together, with Auctions America’s $18.5m sale, nearly $32m worth of cars changed owners in Auburn during the weekend.
Worldwide’s next sale will be held in Atlantic City on February 24.
