Auction Recap: RM’s 2015 Paris Sale

RM first joined the festivities in Paris last year with a €17.7 million sale topped by a 1955 Jaguar D-Type at €3.7 million. This year’s second annual sale showed a little bit of growth with total sales at over €19.3 million ($22,008,131) with a $407,558 average price and a sell-through rate of 81%. Completely filling the top ten spots in the sale were thoroughbred sports cars from many of the familiar all-time greats.

The top sale went to the 1963 Ferrari Lusso at €1,624,000 ($1,851,806), while not far behind a Porsche 904 Carrera GTS with period race history fetched €1,428,000 ($1,628,312). A low-mileage 1990 Ferrari F40 also brought a relatively high €1,176,000 ($1,340,963) and a very early Iso Grifo brought an incredible €1,036,000 ($1,181,324). And just as Bonhams showed how strong the Aston Martin market is with their top two sales, so too did RM with a 1964 DB5 that brought €840,000 ($957,831). Rounding out the top ten was a 1970 Maserati Ghibli, a significantly more desirable Spider, that brought €550,000 ($627,151).

Other notable sales included a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 at €498,400 ($565,900), a road-going Lancia 037 at €336,000 ($381,506) and a 1948 Tatra T87 for €115,000 ($130575). Of the handful of cars that failed to sell there was a 1939 Alfa Romeo that hammered at over €1.8 million ($2.06 million) as well as another 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, this one a more desirable Sports Lightweight model, that hammered at almost €934,000 ($1.06 million).
