RM Auctions’ Amelia Island results
RM Auctions followed up its successful sale of the Milhous Collection with its 14th annual collector car auction at the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia Island, Fla., March 10, 2012. Results were slightly lower than last year, but still reflective of a healthy market. In all, 101 of 115 automotive lots sold for an 88% sell-through rate and a $22m total. This compares to $24m sold last year, and $19m sold in 2010.
The top sale was a stunning 1929 Cord L-29 coupe that sported a one-off design by Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky. With known history from new and a gorgeously sleek body, the car earned $2.42m. The second highest sale went to one of four 1956 Ferrari 250 GT coupes produced in the style of a 410 Superamerica by Pinin Farina. This car was certified by Ferrari Classiche and had won numerous awards during its history, which added up to a price of $1.43m. Two cars tied for the third spot at $1.21m: a beautiful 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage Volante, and an equally lovely 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder. The top five automotive lots were:

- 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 coupe sold for $1.1m
RM’s next sale will be held in Monaco on May 11-12, 2012. Notable consignments for that sale include the Saltarelli Collection of Ducati motorcycles, a 1968 Alfa Romeo Tip 33/2 “Daytona” that won Imola, and a 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa that is the sixth competition Ferrari ever built.
