Auction Preview: Mecum’s 2014 Harrisburg Sale
Mecum Auctions is heading east with its inaugural Harrisburg, Pa., sale. Scheduled for July 24-27 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, this will be the farthest east Mecum has held an event outside of its annual Kissimmee sale in January. With 1,000 vehicles expected, there are plenty of intresting cars to watch cross the block, but here are five of particular interest to us.
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Convertible

It’s hard to argue that Chevrolet really made a statement when it dropped its brand new 450hp LS6 454 in the Chevelle for 1970. No other automakers at that time were advertising those types of horsepower numbers and, because of that, these cars are popular with both casual and diehard muscle car enthusiasts alike. While LS6 prices have remained fairly predictable over the years, this example should be a good one to keep an eye on; it has a stack of documentation, two-owner history, and is reported to be the only known red-and-white LS6 convertible built, which makes this car just a little more interesting than the rest. Watch this one as it rumbles up to the block.

When Hurst decides to pair with a car company to make a performance car, the results are usually impressive. The S/C Rambler is certainly no exception. Once you get past the wild “A” paint scheme and hood scoop, you really start to see what makes these cars so special — a 390-ci engine inside a car that only weighs 3,100 pounds. AMC performance cars have remained a good value for the performance for quite a while. If you are looking for a car that makes a bold statement, is powerful, and is hard to find but is still relatively affordable, then look no further than the S/C Rambler.
1995 Acura NSX Coupe

The NSX isn’t your typical Acura; it was a large step toward establishing the automaker as a contender in the performance car world, and Acura knocked it out of the park. Would you expect anything less from a car with developmental input from Ayrton Senna? These cars aren’t especially rare, but they do have good collector appeal and are beginning to appreciate in value. As an emerging collector vehicle, the NSX is definitely a car to take notice of as they come up for sale.
2003 Saleen S7 Coupe

When the phrase “super car” comes up, it is hard not to immediately think of the well-established names of Ferrari and Lamborghini. In the early 2000s Saleen sought to add its name to that list with the S7, a carbon fiber-bodied, 550hp performance machine. These cars were low production and don’t often come up for sale. The last time an S7 appeared at auction was nearly a year ago, making this a good opportunity to check the pulse of the S7 market.
1988 Chevrolet Corvette Callaway Convertible

As usual, Mecum has been able to secure an interesting collection of Corvettes. Among them is this Callaway-tuned example. Callaway Corvettes were a big step up from the base model, raising output from 245hp to 382hp for 1988. This pricy upgrade meant that few were produced, making them a unique find today. This is a good opportunity to see a quick C4 ‘Vette that’s not a ZR-1 car come up for sale.
