E-Type removable steering wheel boss

One of the many joys of owning a Jaguar E-type is the fact that nearly every replacement part is readily available and an enthusiastic after-market has sprung up to supply a host of worthwhile enhancements. The latest is a removable steering boss from Classic Motor Cars, Ltd.

Taking a cue from F1, it allows one to easily remove the steering wheel of an E-type. It’s a boon for ingress and egress (something the designers of the 300SL Gullwing realized) when dealing with the high sills of an E-type. It also makes a great theft deterrent.

The beautifully machined alloy boss with a splined shaft will take the stock 15″ wheel and those made by Moto-Lita. It comes with explicit instructions and took us about 1.5 hours to install. The kit fits both Series 1 and Series 2 cars. At £295.00 (about $435), it’s not cheap, but if getting in and out of your E has become a chore, there’s simply nothing like it.
