Volvo will give away $1 million in cars during Super Bowl LIV—on one condition

Volvo claims that, with the invention of the three-point safety belt sixty years ago and all its safety firsts that followed, the brand has saved “more than one million lives” through innovation alone. To celebrate this achievement and all the people benefiting from the Swedish approach, Volvo Car USA has announced “Volvo Safety Sunday, a pledge to give away $1 million in cars if a safety occurs during football’s biggest night on February 2, 2020.”

As you can tell, the rules couldn’t be more straightforward:

For a chance to win, you’ll need to visit VolvoSafetySunday.com to design a 2020 Volvo, and submit your configuration code as an entry, between January 20 and the moment before kickoff on February 2, 2020. Any new Volvo in any trim or color, be that a sedan, a wagon or an SUV. In case a safety occurs on game day, Volvo will award $1 million in those submitted cars to randomly selected entrants.

In case you’re not familiar with the game, a safety is scored in American football when “an offensive team is tackled, loses or fumbles the ball, or commits a penalty in their own end zone. The result of the play is two points to the defensive team, who receives possession of the ball via a free kick.”

Volvo admits this to be a “relatively rare and unpredictable” phenomenon in the game, but since one during the 2020 Super Bowl will be worth a new Volvo for at least eleven contenders (if we base our math on fully-loaded 2020 XC90 T8 Inscriptions), your odds could play out.

To enter the game on top of the big game, hit VolvoSafetySunday.com, spec a red wagon (or anything else you fancy), and keep your fingers crossed for the moment when Jimmy Garoppolo or Patrick Mahomes gets tackled in his own end zone. By that point, a few people in America will have a brand new Volvo.
