Petersen Museum celebrates 25 years with rooftop Block Party

The Petersen Automotive Museum was founded on June 11th, 1994. This year is filled with events celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Los Angeles landmark, including this past weekend’s Petersen Block Party, which marked a quarter century of sharing southern California’s love of the automobile with the world.

The rooftop Block Party was open to the public and featured a cruise-in of local vehicles. Dozens of cars filled the top deck of the Petersen Museum’s parking structure, from sport compact and muscle to Italian exotics and a one-off supercar concept. Some of the more interesting and appropriate cars from the Petersen Collection were moved out of the Vault and into the limelight for the special occasion.

The 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Jonckheere Coupe and its fabulous Art Deco styling is always a spectacle, and it drew a crowd to the corner of the Petersen’s parking structure where it was displayed. The car has been in the Petersen collection for 18 years and was treated to a thorough restoration.

As the 24 Hours of Le Mans was running at the same time as the Block Party, it was fitting to have all three generations of Ford GT in attendance.

A separate event was held simultaneously at the museum’s penthouse, where a live stream of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was the focus of the festivities. Food, music, and drinks were provided for the private event, and a competition was held to see who could record the fastest lap in Forza while behind the wheel of a Ford GT.

If you missed the block party, don’t worry. The Petersen hosts plenty of events, and you can check their calendar here so you can plan your next visit.
