A New Newmad
You may remember Dave Hall from his “Newmad,” below. He shared his restoration story with us over a year ago and with that hot blue Chevy, he’s been traveling to car shows and events winning awards and trophies. At last year’s Phoenix World of Wheels, he and the Newmad enjoyed winning Best in Class, Best Custom, Championship Auto Shows International Cup (CASI). In addition to the shows, Dave’s ride can be seen in publications and on television and websites all over, from Steve’s Restoration Shop website (www.stevesautorestorations.com) to Super Chevy and Super Rod magazines.
Never one for saying enough is enough, Dave has since begun another project. Last year, he purchased a ’46 Ford convertible project that he planned on recreating in the “New-stalgia” theme. He likens it to the look of a ‘50s hot rod with modern technology like disc brakes, automatic (700R4), power steering, A/C, electronic fuel injection (EFI), Heidt’s Super Ride suspension, etc. The engine in the ’46 Ford is a mild built ’57 392 Hemi running a four-carb Weiand manifold using MoonEyes EFI 97 units (see attachment DCP). These units look like old Stromberg 97 carbs but have injectors inside making it an EFI set up with the old look. The system is being built by Autotrend Engine Development in Diamond Springs , California (outside Sacramento ).
As for the car itself, he plans to leave much of it stock with steelie wheels, small hubcaps, wide whites, 4-inch dropped front axle, mild 2-inch chop, mostly original trim, tucked bumpers, 1949-50 Lincoln taillights, mostly original interior except for a Glide front seat and a cut-down 1948-54 Packard steering wheel. This one’s going to be a ‘driver’ so he doesn’t plan anything “too exotic.” We can’t wait to see the finished project.
