Someone is selling 15 Chrysler TC by Maserati convertibles
Have you ever had the insatiable urge to own a Maserati, Chrysler, or any combination of the two? You are in luck because there are more than a dozen Chrysler TC by Maserati convertibles in Anderson, Indiana, listed for sale on Craigslist. Ranging the entire 1989–91 model run, this collection of Mediterranean K-cars is quite a sight to behold.
The seller’s TCs range from an engine-less parts car to a rare 2.2-liter turbocharged five-speed Uber-LeBaron (according to the seller, only 501 exist with this setup). The Maserati is generally maligned among some car enthusiasts, but many, including your author, will always have a soft spot for them. My first car was an ’85 Chrysler LeBaron Turbo and I fell in love with it. The TC shares a lot of DNA with the LeBaron, just with a “special” Italian flare.
The seller, Jim, gave some insight via a phone call as to how he acquired so many TCs and why he likes them. He spends his winters in Florida and wanted something comfortable to cruise around in. What better choice than a Lee Iacocca and Maserati collaboration? He said the cars’ hardtop (with opera windows)-soft top combination was perfect for driving in both Florida and Indiana.
But why 15 of them? It’s a story that many a gearhead knows well. Jim liked the TC he drove in Florida so much that he bought one to drive in Indiana. That led to more TCs in different engine/transmission/color combos, eventually getting to the number he has today. He knows what he likes. And yet, somehow, he also knows when to quit. When asked why he was selling, Jim explained it’s just time to get rid of them and he has too many.
This actually isn’t the first interaction Hagerty has had with Indiana’s biggest TC collector. In 2015, Hagerty bought a TC from Jim and sold it at auction as part of the 3 Guys, 3 Cars, 3 Days, $5K Each video series on YouTube. Jim’s car collection doesn’t stop at late-’80s Italian-American cars, either. He also owns a ’52 Buick Skylark, ’60 Studebaker Lark, and ’76 Oldsmobile.
So if you’re near Anderson, or you just absolutely NEED to own a TC, give Jim a call.
