Dusty 1961 Jaguar XK150 barn find could be yours
How much do the magical words “barn find” add to the value of a vehicle? In the case of this recently-discovered 1961 Jaguar XK150 3.8-liter Drophead Coupe on eBay, not much. Which makes the 57-year-old survivor we found via Barnfinds.com one cool (and fairly priced) cat.
Offered by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, the light blue XK150 is a matching-numbers example with factory overdrive, dual carburetors, and wire wheels. Judging from the multiple photos included, the car doesn’t run and the gear shift appears to be missing. But the black interior is in decent condition considering it’s a convertible.
The price tag is $69,500—precisely the average value of a #4 (Fair) condition example—but since it doesn’t run and will definitely need engine work, it might be worth exercising eBay’s “Make Offer” button. [A ’61 XK150 3.8 Drophead Coupe in #1 (Concours) condition is worth $174,000.]
The Jaguar XK150, introduced in May 1957 as a ’58 model, is a bit broader and not nearly as swoopy as earlier XKs, and its distinctive grille is also slightly wider. Originally offered with a 3.4-liter engine, a larger and more powerful 3.8-liter engine was offered in ’59 that produced 220 horsepower and a top speed of 125 mph. In four years, fewer than 10,000 XK150 models were produced.
This dirty and patina-laden Jag isn’t exactly a barn cat, but it’s close—it’s been sitting in a New Mexico garage for a number of years (and the dry Southwest climate isn’t a bad place for a classic car to hibernate). Time for someone to get this Jag purring again.
