Instagram Jump Start: This 1955 Dodge Power Wagon deserves a trophy

Politics and the Super Bowl may be dominating the headlines lately, but auto enthusiasts never seem to stray from their favorite subject. We were reminded of that again last week, as Instagram posts on HagertyClassicCars received more likes than ever before. When the dust settled, more than half of our images had 1,000+ likes, and – led by a show-stopping 1955 Dodge Power Wagon – 13 different marques were represented among the top 15. In our car-crazed and totally biased opinion, that’s just plain Super. Here are the top five:

1. 1955 Dodge Power Wagon (1,613 likes) – Designed for off-highway operations, the Power Wagon was one of the first mass-produced 4×4 civilian trucks. Designed to make its way through water, sand and mud, this 1955 C-3-PW is equipped with a 7,500-pound Braden winch to extract itself should the need arise.
   

2. 1966 Pontiac GTO (1,531 likes) – In 1966, the Pontiac GTO – no longer a performance option but a separate model – experienced sky-rocketing sales. Of the 100,000 GTOs sold that year, three-quarters of them were two-door hardtop coupes.
   

3. 1962 Chevrolet Corvette (1,515 likes) – After testing the 1962 Chevrolet Corvette, Car and Driver magazine concluded: “The car isn’t inexpensive, but it’s a good investment, both financially and in terms of some of the most exciting driving to be had.” Car and Driver’s assessment certainly rang true. MSRP for a ‘62 Vette with 250-hp, 327-cid V-8 was $4,038 – equal to about $31,606 in today’s economy – and the cars now sell for six figures at auction. Their owners will tell you they’re also a blast to drive.
   

4. 1971 Ford Capri (1,389 likes) – Aimed at the European market – and built in Belgium, Germany and the UK – Ford’s 1969-74 Capri Mk 1 was mechanically based on the Cortina. This 1971 model received a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine at the factory, but it was later swapped for a 2.0-liter Pinto engine.
   

5. 1963 Jaguar XKE (1,312 likes) – Jaguar advertising called the now-iconic XKE “an entirely new concept of high speed motoring.” There is a 265-hp, 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine under the bonnet of this 1963 roadster.
   

Best of the Rest – We love Steve McQueen, but the “King of Cool” isn’t the only iconic actor known for his love of fast cars. Want to turn Clint Eastwood’s legendary scowl into a smile?
