25th Bond film, “No Time to Die,” delayed once again
Originally scheduled for April 3, 2019, Daniel Craig’s final Bond film has now been delayed a second time—nearly a year from its initial release date. MGM, Universal, and Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced that No Time to Die won’t hit theaters until April 2, 2021.
A major factor in the delay has been the indefinite closure of New York theaters, says John Fithian, head of the National Association of Theatre Owners. “New York is a major source of box office, but it also plays an important role in shaping culture,” Fithian told Variety. “Many important analysts are in New York. Many important journalists are in New York. Many important film critics are in New York. With New York closed, those important opinion-makers don’t have the opportunity to go to the cinema.”
The official news release, shared on 007.com, was rather sparse on the details, stating that the main purpose of the delay was to ensure the film would reach “a worldwide theatrical audience.”
While we wait, however, there are plenty of juicy automotive stunts from the movie to obsess over: this insane DB5 burnout-plus-shootout scene, the new Defender being very tough indeed, and nearly every wheeled object on screen getting airtime.
