Maserati is teasing the all-electric GranTurismo

While Maserati is busy cooking up a brand-new mid-engine supercar to show us as early as this year, work is also underway on its self-developed EV platform. This will emerge from FCA’s cutting-edge Innovation Lab in Modena to power the first fully-electric Maserati, the next GranTurismo. As you’d expect, this pioneering 2+2 will arrive in two body styles (coupé and cabriolet) and will be followed by more trident-badged EVs down the line.

Maserati waved goodbye to its Ferrari-sourced naturally-aspirated V-8-powered GranTurismo family with the uniquely painted Zéda last November. Now, all eyes are on FCA to see how far Maserati can go in terms of performance, now that it doesn’t share an umbrella with Ferrari, the sibling that went public.

The previewed mid-engine car suggests huge ambitions, and while Maserati remains tight-lipped about its upcoming EVs for now, it confirmed that the next Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio will both be 100-percent electric and built at FCA’s production hub in Turin.

As announced during the Zéda’s presentation, the duo of electric sports cars will debut in 2021.
