Concours Virtual brings together some of the world’s best cars—and you can vote
COVID-19 has wiped out virtually every automotive event this summer, but you can still participate … virtually. The Concours Virtual allows you to take part in a world-class concours d’elegance without leaving your garage, and it is already underway.
More than 180 of the world’s most beautiful automobiles are being curated into 17 special classes and judged by some of the world’s pre-eminent experts. Classes and results have been gradually revealed since June 30. You can vote for the People’s Choice Award in each class online.
The concours hopes to generate attention and attract donations for UNICEF’s pandemic response to help children affected by the worldwide COVID-19 crisis. The goal is to raise £100,000 ($126,323) and all donations are welcome through the event’s Just Giving Page.
Among the Best in Class winners so far are: Pre-War Preservation, 1893 Salvesen Steam Wagonette (Duncan Pittaway); Hollywood Legends, 1967 BMW 507 Elvis Presley (BMW Classic); Cars of the Art Deco Era, 1939 Delahaye Figoni & Falaschi 135 Competition Disappearing Top Convertible (Mullin Automotive Museum); Pre-War Supercars, 1932 Duesenberg Model J Torpedo Convertible Coupe (Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum); The Golden Age of Detroit, 1949 Cadillac 62 Club Coupe; and Salt Flat Heroes: Early Bonneville Racers, 1957 MG EX-181.
Upcoming Concours Virtual reveals include Children’s Scale Cars Contenders; Concept Cars of the ’70s; 70 Years of Formula 1; The Outlaws (Modified German Aircooled cars); Banzai! Group A Homologation; Post-War Grand Tourers, 1945–59; Poster Cars of the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s; Junior Concours: Children’s Scale Cars; Crumpet Cars: A Tribute to Stirling Moss; Post War Grand Tourers, 1960–69; and Le Mans, 1961–70. Results will continue to be shared throughout the next two weeks.
Overall Best in Show will be revealed on August 9 at 6 p.m.
Among the more recognizable vehicles are Steve McQueen’s 1956 Jaguar XKSS and 1962 Land Rover Series II, Greta Garbo’s 1932 Duesenberg Model J, and the 1956 Outlaw Porsche 356 owned by John Oates of Hall & Oates.
