The “Fast and Furious” Paul Walker Collection features five BMW M3 Lightweights for sale

Worthy of their car-loving owner and his fast-driving legacy, 21 hot vehicles from the collection of the late Paul Walker will be offered at Barrett-Jackson’s 2020 Scottsdale Auction.

The highlight of the collection, scheduled to cross the block January 11–19, are five—that’s right, five—E36-generation BMW M3 Lightweights. Built for the track and weighing 282 pounds less than standard U.S.-market cars, they can flat-out fly. Fewer than 130 Lightweights were built, and Walker clearly had an appetite for them.

“Paul Walker’s collection spanned five decades of automotive excellence and truly reflected his personal taste,” Barrett-Jackson president Steve Davis said in a press release. “Paul’s passion for performance was especially expressed in the cars he loved.”

Walker, popular co-star of The Fast and the Furious movie franchise, was killed on November 30, 2013 while riding with his friend Roger Rodas, a professional driver and co-owner of Walker’s race team, who lost control of his Porsche Carrera GT and crashed during a break in the filming of Furious 7. Not only was Walker a car guy, he was a well-known philanthropist and founder of the non-profit charity Reach Out Worldwide.

Barrett-Jackson has been a consistent supporter of Reach Out Worldwide, and chairman and CEO Craig Jackson said in a press release that the company is “deeply honored” to offer Walker’s collection. He applauded his generous spirit, calling the actor’s influence “immense.”

While the list of cars, trucks, and motorcycles in the Walker Collection is long, below are six of our favorites—or 10, if you count all five Lightweights. Since Barrett-Jackson hasn’t released details about the vehicles, we had to speculate a bit about what’s under the hood of a few.

1995 BMW M3 Lightweight (x5)

M3 Lightweights—each powered by a 240-horsepower BMW S50 3.0-liter straight-six engine and backed by a five-speed manual transmission—typically sell for three times the price of comparable-condition 1995 BMW M3 Coupes. The #1-condition (Concours) value for an M3 base model has increased 21 percent over the past five years to $44,000. Without a celebrity owner like Walker, an M3 Lightweight in #1 condition would likely sell in the neighborhood of $132,000, so expect the Fast and Furious connection to bring more for each example.

The record price for a 1995 BMW M3 Lightweight is $145,750 at Gooding & Company’s 2017 Amelia Island auction.

1963 Chevrolet Nova Wagon

While the top spec engine for a 1963 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova 400 station wagon is a 120-hp, 194-cubic-inch, single-barrel six (with a #1 value of $20,100), it is quite unlikely that Walker’s car is stock.

The record price paid for a 1963 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova 400 wagon is $66,000, set at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach event earlier this year, but that one had an LSX 454 crate engine.

1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Wagon

The best Chevrolet Chevelle Wagon available in 1964 was powered by an L74 300-hp, 327-cu-in four-barrel, which has a #1 value of $23,300. Again, it is unlikely that Walker’s 1964 Chevelle Wagon remained stock, so this one will go for much more than that.

The record for a 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle wagon is $143,000 at Mecum’s Monterey 2018 auction for a two-door with a 283 engine and four-speed transmission. Could Walker’s wagon approach that? Surpass it?

1995 Ford Bronco

We all know that classic SUVs are popular. This one isn’t quite as “classic” as those we’re talking about, but it’s still desirable, especially considering Walker’s ownership. Since we don’t know for sure what “1995 Ford Bronco” we’ll see in the auction catalogue, we’ll go for a 1995 Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer Edition with a 351 V-8, which has a #1 value of $29,100. That’s a 17-percent increase in the last five years.

With that said, the record for a 1995 Ford Bronco is a reasonable $24,750 at Mecum’s Louisville auction last month for one with just under 27,000 miles. Without seeing Walker’s Bronco, we’re willing to guess that record won’t last long.

2009 Nissan 370Z

This custom 2009 Nissan 370Z has only 2623 miles on the clock, and it was not only owned by Walker, it appeared in the fifth installment of Furious series, Fast Five. Barrett says the movie car is powered by a 3.7-liter V-6 engine producing 332 hp and is backed by a five-speed manual transmission. It also has several performance upgrades.

You can find stock 2009 370Z coupes for $17,000–$19,000, and Nissan is offering a brand-new, throwback 2020 370Z for about $30K, but where else can you find one with this kind of provenance?

2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302S race car

Ford, in conjunction with Watson Engineering, built 50 ready-to-race Mustang Boss 302S special limited-edition models in 2013 to pay homage to the original Boss 302. Power is supplied by a 5.0-liter Ford Racing V-8 engine equipped with unique Ford Racing PCS software and an abundance of Ford Racing components, mated a six-speed manual transmission with EXEDY clutch. Walker’s pristine example has never been raced.

The record price for a 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302S is $78,100 at Auction America’s 2015 Auburn auction, and a 2013 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca edition in #1 condition is valued at $50,000—down 11 percent from 2016. Perhaps this one will give those values a boost.
