2006 Hobby Survey Contest Winner Announced
Congratulations to Al Tombaugh from Mesilla Park, New Mexico, on being the lucky winner of our 2006 hobby survey contest drawing: Two tickets to Richard Petty Driving Experience “Experience of a Lifetime” option! The Las Vegas Speedway is Al’s choice in racetracks. Having already graduated from the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving Racing, we hope he has a brand-new awesome experience at the Petty track. Says Al, “I have been wanting to do this for years!”
Al is retired after 36 years in banking. Two of his 10 prized rides are pictured here – his 1956 Buick Special and 1957 Chevy 210 Wagon. Al also has a 1929 Ford Pickup, 1930 Ford Tudor Sedan, 1951 Chevy Sedan Delivery, 1965 El Camino, 1969 Chevelle SS 396 Convertible and a 1988 RX7 Supercharged Rotary Roadster. To add to this roster, he also owns and drives two Super Comp Dragsters. Al’s outside interests are metal fabrication, woodworking, CAD design and golf.
His wife, Cherylee, is a retired special education teacher and now has a private practice in Educational Diagnostics. An interesting tidbit about Al that you won’t find with any other individual in the world is that his father, Clyde Tombaugh, discovered our ninth planet, Pluto, in 1930. “Yes, it still is a planet,” says Al.
Currently, though retired from banking, Al is President of Planet Development Design-Build, a custom home-builder near Las Cruces, New Mexico. He’s a member of the Las Cruces Home Builders Association and the Las Cruces Rodrunners Car Club.
