Already? There’s a Special Edition of the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD

Ford

For the 2025 model of the Mustang GTD, Ford’s $325,000, 815-horsepower, 202 mph supercar, the company has created a cosmetic Spirit of America special edition honoring Craig Breedlove, the jetcar driver who set records at 400, 500 and 600 miles per hour. He named all his cars Spirit of America.

Ford’s connection to Breedlove and the Spirit of America seems thin, except that Breedlove’s first land-speed ride was a 1934 Ford coupe that he paid $75 for; with the help of his high school shop teacher, he supercharged it and drove it 154 mph at the El Mirage dry lake in 1960. According to Mustang GTD brand manager Jim Owens: “Mustang GTD wouldn’t have been possible without people like Craig Breedlove, pushing the edge of the envelope and challenging the Goliaths of the day in an all-American way.”

The Mustang GTD Spirit of America starts with a Performance White body with thin twin racing stripes in Race Red and Lightning Blue. The design “matches the overalls that Craig Breedlove wore when he broke both the 500- and 600-mile-per-hour barriers in the 1960s,” Ford says.

The front splitter and rear diffuser and massive wing are exposed carbon fiber. “That spoiler includes Race Red end plates and “MUSTANG” lettering on the underside, leaving no doubt for trailing cars about what just passed them.” Brake calipers are Race Red, and exterior mirror caps come in Race Red or carbon fiber.

Inside, the paddle shifters, shift ring, and instrument panel badge are available in 3D-printed titanium. There’s also a “package specific” seat option: “The seats are leather-trimmed with Dinamica inserts. Black Onyx features prominently, with a Race Red gradient stripe down the middle and Re-Entry White trimmings on the exterior, while Victory Blue contrast stitching provides a subtle pop of color.”

And that’s pretty much it. There’s no word yet on the cost of the Spirit of America package, or the availability; in September, a Ford spokesperson told Hagerty that the first two years of Mustang GTD production are already spoken for.
