Camaros to Cobras: American Pushrod Power at the Rolex Motorsports Reunion
Monterey Car Week is not all about the imported exotics. You can find fine domestic cars at plenty of venues all across the peninsula, even at the exclusive Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. However, American V-8 muscle shines at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion where Trans Am cars from Chevrolet, Ford, Pontiac, AMC, and Dodge rev out a small-block symphony and Corvettes and Monzas pit their pushrods against flat-six Porsches. There were plenty of big V-8s making noise as well, as 427 Corvettes rumbled down the Corkscrew, battling against Cobras. We’ll dig into the technical details of some of these race engines a bit later. For now, enjoy some of our favorite shots from historic Laguna Seca.
The Bizzarrini and the Monza race cars look pretty good. Lots of great cars here.

The 57 Corvette driven by Ron Erickson, won it’s class race 2 times. In 1982 driven by myself and in 1987 driven by Dick Guldstrand. From 2002 to 2006 driven by my Daughter Jeni who has raced a 1964 Corvette since then.

Wonderful views of wonderful cars doing what they do best. Agree with the comment on including a couple of videos would be a nice addition.
The Dekon Monza’s are fantastic. That was the car I wanted in high school. I wore out the Chevy Power Book, I think 3rd edition, dreaming of those body panels and building my own racer. If I recall, they used to kick Porsche butt until Porsche whined enough and were allowed to turn up the boost to keep up with the lowly small block Chevy’s.
