Brady’s Rolls or Petty’s Mustang: Which Tom’s Car Would You Choose?
Two distinctly different star cars are up for auction, but they do have one thing in common; their previous famous owners are both named Tom.
Sotheby’s Motorsport is currently selling the Ghost of Tom Brady online, while Bonhams will put Tom Petty’s Ford Mustang on the block at its Quail auction on August 16.
Starting on the football field the Hall of Fame quarterback is passing on his 2024 Rolls-Royce Ghost after covering just 127 miles or 223,520 yards. Resplendent in Black Diamond paintwork with a Grace White interior Brady added over $90,000 of extras such as illuminated tread plates featuring his signature, picnic tables and “immersive” seating. The 6.75-liter, 563-hp V-12 endows the Ghost with serious kick, while a decent return is expected on the sale, with bidding currently at $400,000. Touchdown is August 23.
The late great Tom Petty’s pony car was more popular with the Heartbreakers front man who bought it freshly restored in 2002 and is only now being sold on by his estate. The Rangoon Red over deluxe red and white 1964.5 Mustang is fitted with the rare D-code 289 cubic inch V-8, fed by a single four-barrel carburetor and mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. It would be perfect for cruising Ventura Boulevard or The King’s Highway and despite its rock star provenance the top estimate is just $35,000—although that could well increase if bidders won’t back down.
No interest in either. I can get a similar Mustang for less as I really don’t need Tom Petty to own a car. As for the Rolls. not my thing.
Just shows the waste he has as he spent all that money and now dumps the car. The celerity factor here is limited since he really did not drive the car much as most of the miles someone else did.
