eBay Find of the Week: 1962 International Harvester Scout
1962 International Harvester Scout
We’ve covered the growing classic SUV market for some time here at Hagerty. Early Broncos have risen to unheard of values and early Land Rovers are serious collectables for those with means. Classic Jeeps are certainly iconic and enjoy an enormous aftermarket support. If simple, square, and tough are your preferred automotive descriptors, then the market suggests you are not alone. For those of us in this group with more limited funds and esoteric taste, however, there are other options like like this week’s eBay Find.
International Harvester’s Scout series was first introduced in 1960 and was made for over 20 years in various generational permutations. Yet nice examples seem fairly rare these days. They haven’t been as common or valuable as Broncos, which made restorations challenging and expensive (or time-consuming if you tackle a project yourself). But their simple nature and robust design has a great deal of appeal.
This 1962 example represents, we believe, the first year with roll-up windows that replaced the removable sliding style first used. That appears to be about the only luxury on this car with its exposed steel interior and simple controls. This one does have a nicely reupholstered cabin and a few modern improvements (a stereo!) while maintaining the truck’s original style with a fold-down windshield and a removable hard top.
Its location in Arizona has us thinking about the possibility of finding a fun ride for the forthcoming Arizona auction week. You won’t be going fast with the original 4-cylinder and 3-speed combo, but we’d hazard to bet that valets will give this rig preferred parking privileges thanks to its timeless shape and cross-generational appeal.
The Buy-It-Now Price of $15,000 put this just above Hagerty’s #3 condition value but compared to other early utility vehicles, this one still seems reasonable and attainable. Check out the full listing on eBay for more information.
