eBay Find of the Week: Want to be like Tom Cotter?
Wouldn’t it be a blast to spend your time searching for lost automotive treasures like Barn Find Hunter Tom Cotter? Well maybe we can’t all do what Cotter does, but here’s your chance to drive a car much like his 1939 Ford Woodie. Currently on eBay is this similar “old bounce around surf wagon” 1940 Woodie, located in Oceanside, Calif., with a $38,000 starting bid.
It features a stroked Chevy Small Block V-8, Turbo Hydra-matic 350 automatic transmission, power steering and brakes. According to the listing, it also has a new 12-volt system and heater, along with a few other components. The seller seems upfront about its condition, claiming that it’s not a show car but that the “Body [is] pretty solid, most rust repaired with welded panels. Wood body solid, no rot with new finish, doors shut solid.”
There is also a list of issues titled “Bad.” We’ll let you sort through it. And let’s be upfront — it’s not remotely as clean as Cotter’s Woodie. But it does have a nice aged appearance that you probably won’t have to worry too much about. Regarding barn finds: You’re still on your own.
