Volvo’s 275-mile EX30 costs $9K less than RWD Model Y
Volvo has announced pricing for the full model range of its first small electric SUV, the five-passenger 2025 Volvo EX30. The starting price is $34,950 which, Volvo says, gets you a “premium fully electric SUV for a similar price to an internal combustion engine-powered equivalent.”
The single-motor Extended Range EX30 comes in three models: Core ($34,950), Plus ($38,900) and Ultra ($40,600). Prices do not include the $1295 destination fee. The twin-motor Performance model is available in two flavors: Plus ($44,900) and Ultra ($46,600).
The single-motor variants have an EPA-estimated range of 275 miles. The twin-motor Performance model has a 0-to-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating Volvo in history. Volvo had previously announced horsepower ratings at 268 for the single-motor variant, 422 for the all-wheel-drive Performance.
Standard on every Volvo EX30 is Google built-in, featuring native Google Maps and Google Assistant. Also standard is wireless Apple CarPlay, and a range of advanced safety features including a Driver Alert System, Blind Spot Information System, Door Opening Alert, and Front and Rear Collision Mitigation.
Upgrading to the Plus equipment level, you get Harman Kardon Premium Sound, a dual-tone panoramic roof in Onyx Black, as well as larger 19-inch wheels. The Ultra equipment level includes the next generation of Pilot Assist with Lane Change Assistance, a 360 Camera with 3D View, and Park Pilot Assist.
“The fully electric EX30 might be our smallest-ever SUV, but it’s a big deal for our customers and a big deal for us as a company,” said Jim Rowan, the chief executive. “We like to say the EX30 is small yet mighty, because it delivers on everything you’d want from a Volvo but in a smaller package. Like any Volvo, it’s an outstanding product which is safe and designed around people and their needs.”
The EX30 expands the Volvo lineup of fully electric vehicles to four models, joining the EX90 luxury SUV, the much smaller XC40 Recharge, and the C40 Recharge, essentially a “coupe” variant of the second. Pre-order deposit holders for the EX30 can begin to configure their Volvo-lets later this fall, with deliveries expected to commence in the first half of 2024.

Yawn. You could tell me that fourth picture was a Tesla and I’d have believed you. Shame that even with the design freedoms that EV platforms grant, makers are still bent on cranking out blandness for the masses. Guess we shouldn’t be surprised.
That’s really good news. It’ll never surpass the Tesla Model Y which is now the best selling vehicle on earth. Still, great to see and will drive better than any antiquated gas car.
