Instagram Jump Start: The joy of smoking tires and donuts

Action! The roar of racecars, the joy of donuts and squealing tires. Dang, we love that stuff. So it’s no wonder that two videos we posted on HagertyClassicCars – one from historic Laguna Seca, the other from a Camaro photoshoot – roared to the top of our “most liked” list this week. We think.

We’re having a difficult time comparing apples to oranges. Of course, that only reinforces why that’s such a good analogy. Without explaining the details of how Instagram works, let’s just say that it is way easier to score a “view” than it is to score a “like.” With that said, we are pretty sure these are the most viewed/liked posts on HagertyClassicCars during the past week:

1. Laguna Seca Vintage Racing Video (8,155 views) – Some of the world’s most legendary sports cars hit Turn 5 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during last month’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in Salinas, Calif. Watch for the red No. 20, a $50 million Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta – one of only 39 built.

2. 2017 Chevrolet Camaro Video (6,962 views) – A 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS puts the finishing touches on a recent Hagerty magazine photoshoot at M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan. Hagerty’s Winter 2016 issue will celebrate 50 years of the iconic Camaro. That’s a wrap!

3. 1965 Plymouth Barracuda (1,431 views) – The Plymouth Barracuda was introduced in April 1964, two weeks prior to the Ford Mustang. It sported a fastback body style that Mustang didn’t offer until the following model year and had a more powerful six-cylinder engine than the Mustang (and also offered an optional 180-hp, 273-cid V-8), but it never gained the following that its crosstown rival did. This ’65 Barracuda is on display in the lobby at Hagerty headquarters in Traverse City, Mich.
   

4. 1951 Chevrolet 3100 pickup (1,407 likes) – The half-ton, light-duty truck in the 1951 Chevrolet lineup was the 3100. The quarter-ton 1500 was a step down, while larger trucks included the three-quarter-ton 3600 and “Dubl-Duti” series, the one-ton 3800 and one-ton “Dubl-Duti” 3900.
   

5. 1950 Studebaker Champion (1,150 likes) – Studebaker’s new-for-1950 “bullet-nose” design is still a head-turner today. This custom job has had its front bumper removed.
   

One We Love But You Only Liked – Every week there’s a photo that we think deserved a lot more “likes” than it received. This one – shot at last month’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance – is one of those.

Best of the Rest – We’ve enjoyed the consistency of @rear_view_mirror_cars for quite a while now. Not only do we get to see great automobiles each week, but we love the idea of showing them from a reflective point of view – in the driver’s side rearview mirror. Looking back (of course), we really liked this photo of a beautiful Datsun Z car.
