Woodward’s Avenue’s drag-racing past, when the Big Three surreptitiously used it as a test strip for new vehicles, is well-documented. But never before has drag racing been legal – until Friday night, ahead of the annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

More than 30,000 spectators flocked to Pontiac, Mich., Friday night for the first-ever Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge, where hundreds of racers squared off in front of the new M1 Concourse to test their mettle. Hagerty’s Sabrina Hyde was there; here are our favorite photos from the event.
