Ford to charge extra for hybrid Maverick

2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid XLT Ford

Many of us thought it odd that the base model of the 2022 Ford Maverick pickup was the gas-sipping, 40-mpg-plus hybrid version. Ford apparently caught on: For the 2024 model year, the 191-hp, 2.5-liter hybrid will no longer be the truck’s standard engine, according to Ford Authority.

It seems the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, an option through 2023, will replace it as the base engine; the hybrid engine will become a $1500 option, as Ford tells The Drive. The truck’s price is expected to remain around $25,000.

Order banks for the 2024 model year are expected to open within the next few weeks. Act quickly when they do, as the 2023 model sold out, and multiple dealers took the opportunity to mark up the Mexico-built Maverick in general, and the hybrid model in particular.

Those of us who have driven the Maverick, especially the hybrid, have been more than impressed with it in practically every area. But it’s up to you how much of a markup you consider reasonable.

I see lots of Mavericks on the road here in Central Texas…I’m not in the market for a new vehicle but if I was I’d certainly consider a Maverick, I really like em! Good job Ford!

The Maverick to me is a disappointment. It is really cheap material wise and not much more than a Cheap CUV with a bed.

I am still not sold that this is going to be a big segment. Yes there were some buyers for a smaller truck but with others getting into the market expect the pie to be cut in smaller slices for each.

“But it’s up to you how much of a markup you consider reasonable.”

    Reasonable??? How bout criminal?

If stupid people would stop buying stupid dealership artificially inflated stupid priced vehicles maybe, just maybe the price gouging cretans would be taught a lesson. Unfortunately the herd mentality takes over and off the cliff the lemmings go after the latest and greatest no matter the cost. Whatever happened to businesses being prosecuted for price gouging… any more it seems to be worn as a badge of honor instead of something shameful… but in any case stupid is as stupid does…

Dealership markups have been crazy. I know a few people who said forget it because the markups were putting this in a higher price class. No markup is reasonable to me if you are a good dealer your customer service will bring repeat customers.

Having the need for a toad to pull behind our B+ Rv we finally found a used 23 Maverick with 400 miles on it and located 600 miles away which had everything on it. We are one of the so called stuped people but have no regrets as this truck totally replaces the jeed wrangler we had and averages 36 mpg. We paid a $6000 dollar premium over the sticker price and are glad we made the purchase. Signed stuped but happy.

Pay additional sales tax on the dealer profit…..not me! Drive off the lot and have a wreck. Your insurance company will not be covering your dealer mark up nonsense…you are screwed.

The mark up is a voluntary crime.

Dealers mark up and buyers come in of their own free will to over pay and get ripped off.

All this just because they lack control over the new car emotion. Some have to do it to be 5he first in the town to have a car for about a week. Others because they just have to have a new car now.

Generally this is all self inflicted and some made a choice that it is 2orth what they over pay to fill these emotional needs.

I don’t feel bad for anyone who plays this game.
