AEHRA Sedan has boring name, striking styling

Italian luxury EV startup AEHRA has revealed a second car and, once again, all its creative energy has gone into the design, rather than the name. The follow-up to AEHRA’s debut SUV is called, simply, Sedan but while the badge might be boring, the car itself is a stunner.

Leading the design is former Lamborghini Chief Designer Felippo Perini, whose greatest hits include the Murciélago LP 640, Aventador, Huracán, Centenario and Urus. Quite unlike the aggressive angles featured in his previous portfolio the AEHRA Sedan has a fluid design, with a single uninterrupted line defining its profile. Subtle changes in the surfacing manipulate light and shadow to create additional character.

It’s a technique pioneered by Mazda with its Kodo design language, although Perini claims the inspiration comes from deeper in Italian history. “For centuries, Italian architects, artists and designers have been inspired by the pursuit of the perfection of proportion. That passion and discipline are evident in every line and detail of the AEHRA Sedan,” he says.  “Adhering to AEHRA’s doctrine that form must always follow function; the Sedan is the anthesis to baroque design culture. Devoid of unnecessary adornments, yet alive with emotion, the AEHRA Sedan represents a new standard of natural beauty for zero-emission ultra-premium mobility.”

What’s beneath the beautiful body remains mostly a mystery. AEHRA says it has a “bespoke battery solution” from Miba Battery Systems and that the Sedan will have a driving range of almost 500 miles. The car is still three years away from production, and as battery technology advances rapidly, the car that goes on sale might have a different specification. AEHRA founder Hazim Nada has made one promise though—the svelte styling is set in stone. “When the final production variants take to the road, they will look virtually identical to the models we have revealed, ensuring no compromise on our promise to combine an extraordinary driving and ownership experience with exceptional design and technology,” he pledged.
