Instagram Jump Start: Auburn Speedster is super fast, unlike us

Thanks, Memorial Day. We enjoyed a gloriously long weekend, but you messed with our rhythm. Since our brains are still at the beach, this week’s Instagram Jump Start should actually be called Instagram Slow Start. Better late than never, right?

Here are the top five most-liked classic car pics from Hagerty’s Instagram account from the previous week.

  1. 1935 Auburn Eight Speedster (1,859 likes)
Every 1935 Auburn Eight Speedster featured a dashboard plaque inscribed, “This certifies that this AUBURN AUTOMOBILE has been driven 100.8 miles per hour before shipment.” The plaques also included the David “Ab” Jenkins’s “signature,” the speed-record driver who achieved some of his greatest successes at Bonneville behind the wheel of an Auburn speedster. This supercharged boattail speedster sold for $715,000 at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island (Fla.) Auction in March.

  2. 1963 Chevrolet Corvette (1,397)
Controversial at the time of its release but beloved now, the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette’s most famous feature was its split rear window.

  3. 1959 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible (1,160)
In true 1959 Cadillac fashion, this Seminole Red convertible has numerous options and accessories, including Hydra-Matic transmission, power steering, powering brakes, power windows, power top, power windows and a plush interior that included bench seat, clock, air conditioning and radio.

  4. 1987 Ferrari Testarossa (1,141)
Not much changed on the Ferrari Testarossa during its seven-year production. While originally fitted with only a two-stemmed driver’s side outside mirror mounted half way up the A-pillar (known as the monospecchio), in 1987 it was moved to the base of the A-pillar and a passenger-side mirror was added.

  5. 1959 Oldsmobile Super 88 (1,107)
Low, wide and spacious, the mid-range 1959 Oldsmobile Super 88 featured unique front-end styling that included turn signals between dual headlamps.

Best of the rest – Scanning the many automotive posts on Instagram that aren’t on @HagertyClassicCars, we loved this one from @theclassic_mini featuring – what else – a classic Mini. There’s just something about the contrasting subjects in the image – a small classic car parked in front of a huge mansion being admired by a young photographer. Nice.
