Classic Car Parade Held on West Virginia Collector Car Appreciation Day
Classic car enthusiasts rolled into Charleston and lined the state Capitol sidewalks on June 13, 2006 for a news conference in support of recent pro-hobby laws that will boost the collector car hobby in West Virginia and extend the driving hours for classic car owners.
Car admirers who attended the West Virginia Collector Car Appreciation Day were able to view over 200 collector vehicles that adorned the area surrounding Capitol fountain.
“As an automotive enthusiast myself, I was pleased to sign the recent legislation that expanded weekend driving privileges for West Virginia antique vehicle hobbyists,” said Governor Joe Manchin III. “Car collecting is a popular hobby that generates a great deal of interest and support in the Mountain State. This is a positive step to encourage more automotive enthusiasts to get involved in the hobby of car collecting and grow West Virginia’s classic car community.”
The passing of House Bill 4307, which took effect last Wednesday, will allow West Virginia’s antique vehicle hobbyists to enjoy expanded weekend driving privileges. The antique vehicles are now permitted on the roads beginning Friday nights.
“This recent legislation will enhance the car hobby in West Virginia and help to preserve a significant part of American history,” said Rory Carroll, legislative resource director of Hagerty Collector Network. “Collector vehicle owners contribute to the state’s economic stability by bolstering tourism and fostering the growth of small businesses.”
“The support antique car owners are receiving from the state of West Virginia is allowing more people the opportunity to participate in preserving our automotive heritage, which is a great thing,” said Eric Denemark, executive director, West Virginia Motor Sports Council.
Hagerty Collector Network plans to expand its support of fair legislation to additional states in the coming months.
