One Hot ’67 Camaro
Dennis and Cheryl Randall of Fairhope, Alabama own this sizzlin’ hot example of how to turn an old drag race car into one mean street machine. With Dennis having over 25 years of background in drag racing and hot rodding it was a no brainer on what do with this Camaro when it was retired after 13 years of drag strip service in 2003. There was no way Dennis was going to put this car back to original or anywhere close to mild when he still has high octane racing fuel running in his veins and so started the project of making this ex-race car a weekend warrior for cruise nights and car shows.
The well-used GM body was treated to a lot of new sheet panel replacement panels that were ordered from the fine folks over at Goodmark, over 70% of the car’s sheet metal was changed out during this project! The cowl hood for this beast was cut and customized by Donnie Bray of Fairhope while the body work was completed by the owner. The 2004 Kia silver, candy blue flames are PPG base coat clear coat that were sprayed by Jerry at Tomecek Designs in Fairhope.
The interior of this machine is just as tricked out as the exterior and the under hood area. The first thing that will grab your attention is the pair of Drive FX racing seats that Dennis got from S&S Motorsports in Mobile and the serious 5-way G-Force racing harness that features a cam lock release. Some of the other unique items in the interior include, a billet tilt steering column from NPD that is topped off with a gray wrapped leather steering wheel from Billet Specialties, custom gauge cluster that features a brushed aluminum finish, factory style am/fm cassette player from NPD and a custom built console that houses the B&M Mega Shifter. All of the gorgeous upholstery work throughout the interior is from the talented hands of Louis McBride while the custom gray cloth headliner and silver carpet are from the folks over at Bay Auto Glass.
The original GM chassis is now a modified piece that features a stock front suspension and mono-leaf springs with floater ladder bars on the rear, thanks to Richard Stevens and Steve Miller of Gulfport, MS . The original 12 bolt GM rear end is back in place and now runs Strange axles and a spool with 4.88 gears. The tire and wheel combination that Dennis went with is the time proven winning combination of Cragar Drag Star Wheels and Mickey Thompson Tires.
The heartbeat of this hot Camaro is nothing less than a 427 Chevy big block pushing over 850 horsepower with NOS or 600 horsepower off the bottle! This motor is big, bad ,fast and looks good to thanks to trick functional pieces like a pair of 600cfm Holley carburetors sitting on top of a Jet Hot coated Weiand tunnel ram intake and a pair of Jet Hot coated Hooker Headers that are hooked up to a stainless exhaust system that features 3-inch Borla mufflers. All of this horsepower and chrome is teamed up with a beefed up GM Turbo 400 automatic transmission that helps get all of the power to those big Mickey’s.
The finished Camaro rolled out of the Randall’s shop after 16 months of building as you see it now, one very hot looking Camaro that has laid claim to some pretty serious awards in the past year including a Super Chevy Best Pro-Street and Best Pro-Engineered at the 2004 Super Chevy Show in Montgomery, AL.
Dennis and Cheryl can be seen out and about at car shows and cruise nights all over the GulfCoast region in what can only be called Cruisin’ in Style in one hot Camaro.
